Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics, Białowieża
The Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics is one of the widely recognized regular conferences on mathematical physics and applications of mathematics. It has been organized every year since 1982 and has grown from a regional meeting into its current international form, attracting leading physicists and mathematicians from around the world.
The main organizer is Prof. Anatol Odzijewicz together with his colleagues from the Department of Mathematical Physics of the Faculty of Mathematics. Co-organizers include representatives of research centers around the world, such as the Steklov Mathematical Institute in Moscow, CINVESTAV in Mexico City, Rutgers University in New Jersey, and Boston University.
The conference focuses on topics related to geometric methods in physics, such as: infinite-dimensional Lie groups and algebras, integrable systems, noncommutative geometry, symplectic and Poisson geometry, quantization, Lie groupoids and algebroids, and quantum groups.
Each year, around 70 scientists from around the world take part in the conference. During the week-long proceedings, conference participants can listen to around fifty lectures. Young researchers also have the opportunity to present the results of their work in the form of poster presentations and lectures.
In the past, these have included Roy Glauber (Nobel Prize winner in physics), Francesco Calogero, Ludvig Faddeev, Martin Kruskal, Bogdan Mielnik, Emma Previato, Stanisław Lech Woronowicz, Vladimir Zakharov, Alexander Gaifullin, Dmitry Anosov, Gerard Emch, George Mackey, Moshe Flato, Daniel Sternheimer, Tudor Ratiu, Simon Gindikin, Boris Fedosov, Iwo Białynicki-Birula, Jędrzej Śniatycki, and Andrzej Trautman. Special sessions devoted to outstanding mathematicians and physicists (such as S.L. Woronowicz, G. Emch, S.T. Ali, and F. Berezin) were also organized. In 2010, the Newsletter of the European Mathematical Society published an article entitled The Białowieża Meetings on Geometric Methods in Physics: Thirty Years of Success and Inspiration, written by S.T. Ali and T. Voronov to mark the 30th anniversary of the conference.
The workshops last a week and are held in their original location, in the heart of the naturally beautiful Białowieża National Park.
School on Geometry and Physics, Białowieża
Since 2012, the conference Workshops on Geometric Methods in Physics has been accompanied by a week-long School on Geometry and Physics addressed to young researchers, doctoral students, and senior students of mathematics and physics. Each year, around thirty participants take part in the school, where they have the opportunity to attend several series of lectures on review topics or the latest research conducted by invited specialists.
The school lasts five days and takes place at the Open-Air Museum of Wooden Architecture in Białowieża. Its main organizer is Prof. Anatol Odzijewicz, together with his colleagues from the Department of Mathematical Physics of the Faculty of Mathematics.
Conference on Differential and Difference Equations and Applications 2017 (CDDEA 2017)
The conference took place on June 26-30 in Jasná (Demanovská Valley), Slovakia. Its main organizer was the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Białystok. The conference was co-organized by the Slovak Union of Mathematicians and Physicists (Zilina branch), Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic, Kyiv National Economic University, Ukraine, Poznan University of Technology, and Lodz University of Technology.
The conference was devoted to differential and difference equations, including equations on arbitrary time scales and their applications. It was the 24th conference in a series initiated in 1969 by Slovak professors.
The conference was attended by 66 participants, including 62 active participants. As many as 52 participants represented foreign research centers. The participants represented 21 different research units and 15 countries (Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Hungary). The composition of the Scientific Committee of the conference was as follows: V. Astashova (RU), L. Berezansky (IL), A. Boichuk (UA), A. Cabada (ESP), J. Čermák (CZ), J. Diblík (CZ), A. Domoshnitsky (IL), I. Dzhalladova (UA), M. Galewski (PL), I. Györi (H), F. Hartung (H), S. Hilger (D), R. Hilscher (CZ), J. Jaroš (SK), T. Krisztin (H), D. Khusainov (UA), M. Pituk (H), I. Rachůnková (CZ), V. Rasvan (RO), A. Reinfelds (LV), Yu. Rogovchenko (NOR), M. Rontó (H), M. Růžičková (SK), F. Sadyrbaev (LV), E. Schmeidel (PL), S. Siegmund (D), S. Staněk (CZ), M. Tvrdý (CZ), A. Zafer (KW).
The proceedings of the conference will be published in the journal Opuscula Mathematica, which will be indexed in Web of Science.
