10th Forum of Polish Mathematicians at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Bialystok

29.09.2025

On September 8-12, 2025, the 10th Forum of Polish Mathematicians was held at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Białystok. The forum brought together 144 Polish scientists working both in Poland and abroad.

The Forum promoted the integration of the Polish mathematical community and provided an opportunity to discuss issues of concern to this community. It was also a place where discussions on the latest trends and directions in contemporary mathematics were intertwined with reflections on its history. Forum participants had the opportunity to listen to nine plenary lectures by invited guests

  • Agnieszka Bodzenty-Skibińska (University of Warsaw), Saturation of algebraic surfaces
  • Artem Dudko (Polish Academy of Sciences), Characters on infinite discrete groups and their applications
  • Piotr Dyszewski (University of Wrocław), Tree shuffling and the Jacobian hypothesis
  • Andrzej Indrzejczak (University of Łódź), How much set theory is there in logic? On some applications of proof theory in class logic
  • Jacek Jendrej (AGH University of Science and Technology/Sorbonne Université), On some new results concerning soliton decomposition
  • Lech Maligranda (Poznań University of Technology), Józef Marcinkiewicz (1910-1940) - on the 115th anniversary of his birth and the 85th anniversary of his death
  • Ryszard Mazurek (Poznań University of Technology), On Armendriz rings with Polish accents
  • Andrzej Sitarz (UJ), Invariant geometry: from topology to spectral functionals
  • Karol Życzkowski (UJ/PAN), A walk through mathematics related to quantum information: own examples

and eighty-nine papers in twelve thematic sessions

  • Operator algebras and noncommutative geometry
  • The two faces of mathematical physics
  • History of mathematics
  • Mathematical control theory
  • Mathematical aspects of hypercomplex neural networks
  • Probability theory and its synergies
  • Real algebraic geometry and singularity theory
  • Algebraic structures and combinatorics
  • Geometric structures and integrable systems
  • Incidental structures, finite geometries, code theory
  • Theory of groups, rings, and fields
  • General session devoted to other mathematical issues

The forum strengthened cooperation between people from various backgrounds interested in raising the level of mathematical education in Poland. As part of the thematic session

  • Mathematical education

Forum participants had the opportunity to listen to nine presentations dedicated to mathematics education in Poland. During the Forum, the Samuel Dickstein Main Prize of the Polish Mathematical Society was awarded for achievements in the field of mathematics education, popularization, and history, the Hugo Steinhaus Main Prize of the Polish Mathematical Society was awarded for achievements in the field of mathematics applications, the Young Mathematicians Award was awarded for research achievements, the Kazimierz Kuratowski Award for scientific achievements in mathematics, and the Stefan Banach International Award for outstanding doctoral work in the field of mathematical sciences. Forum participants had the opportunity to listen to seven plenary lectures by award winners

  • Barbara Roszkowska-Lech (Polish University of Technology), winner of the Samuel Dickstein Main Prize of the Polish Mathematical Society, The Golden Theorem - the law of reciprocity of quadratic residues
  • Urszula Foryś (University of Warsaw), winner of the PTM Main Award named after Hugo Steinhaus, Mathematics in the service of medicine: the perspective of mathematical oncology
  • Juliusz Banecki (Jagiellonian University), winner of the Award for Young Mathematicians and the Kazimierz Kuratowski Award, Realization of homotopy classes by real algebraic morphisms

During the Forum, Edward Tutaj was awarded the title of honorary member of the Polish Mathematical Society. Interested Forum participants were able to take part in a panel discussion on Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning Mathematics, organized jointly with the National Conference on Teaching Mathematics at Technical Universities, held in parallel at the Białystok University of Technology. In their free time, Forum participants took part in accompanying events: a gala dinner and a trip to Tykocin and the Land of Open Shutters.
